Faith means confidence and trust. It is an essential part of any healthy relationship, including our relationship with God. God will never fail us: we learn this and build our faith in Him by letting ourselves trust Him, one step at a time. When we have faith in God, we love Him and keep His commandments because we know we'll be blessed by following His guidance. We are willing to make sacrifices for God because we trust in the blessings that He has promised to the faithful.
Faith is closely linked with our testimony of God. A testimony is the collection of experiences upon which we build our faith. The Holy Ghost, or Spirit, plays a special role in the building of a testimony: The Spirit bears witness to our minds and our hearts of the truth of God's promises. We also build our testimony by exercising faith in God by doing what He asks us to. In turn, He blesses us, adding to our testimony and growing our faith in Him.
Our goals, values, and desires are often challenged by doubts, fear, and opposition from others. Faith dispels fear and doubt when we know that God has a plan for us. We understand that our struggles in this life are temporary setbacks, and that if we are faithful, God will help us work through any obstacles and we will be blessed in this life and the next.
